DETROIT -

The freeze and thaw cycle in southeast Michigan contributed to a series of traffic accidents across metro Detroit Sunday afternoon.

The sun melted snow in some spots, making roads appear clear, while black ice formed on some road surfaces.

Local 4 cameras tracked three separate crashes on northbound Interstate 75 near Interstate 94, where vehicles lost control after hitting slippery surfaces.

A Michigan State Police vehicle was involved in one accident. The trooper was out of the car when it was hit by another vehicle. The trooper managed to jump out of the way and no one was injured.

Local 4 also spotted a Jeep on its side along the Lodge freeway.

Drivers are advised to be watchful of road conditions, even when the sun is shining.
