DETROIT – Former Detroit contractor Bobby Ferguson's latest request to be let out of prison has been denied.
Ferguson's attorney, Gerald Evelyn, had filed a request Tuesday asking that his client be let out to find a new attorney to represent him in a federal bid-rigging trial.

U.S. District Court Judge Nancy Edmunds denied the request Thursday.

In the bond request, Evelyn had said Ferguson's upcoming trial is "highly complicated."

"Mr. Ferguson needs to identify and communicate with potential new counsel, and as currently situated, cannot do so in a private and confidential manner, whether by phone or email," Evelyn said.
Evelyn said his client won't flee if let out on bond because his passport has already been seized and Ferguson intends to vigorously contest the allegations.

Ferguson, who was found guilty in March of racketeering and corruption charges in a trial he faced alongside with Kwame Kilpatrick, is awaiting re-trail in May for a separate case on charges of conspiracy, money laundering and obstruction of justice.

He's accused of obtaining millions of dollars in public works contracts through false statements and bid collusion.
He's also accused of making false statements in a proposal as part of the Garden View Estates project, a public housing development in Detroit.
