Body found in burned-out Camaro in Detroit

Car found burning in alley near Goethe, Field streets

DETROIT – About 2 a.m. Thursday, firefighters responded to a fire at Goethe and Field streets on Detroit's east side.

They found a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro on fire in an alley. Once they put out the fire they searched the car and found a body stuffed in the trunk.

Sources say the body was burned beyond recognition. They don't know if the body is that of a male or female.

A woman who doesn't want to be identified says she called 911 after she heard noises.

"I thought the house windows were breaking. I heard a big loud noise," she said.

Investigators spent several hours at the scene collecting evidence and trying to piece together what led up to the fire and who is responsible.

Neighbors are now waiting on investigators to identify the victim.

"Definitely hoping it's no one I know, but most of the people I know is my family and we don't visit people much. We aren't visitors," said Matthew Peete, who lives nearby.
