Body found in woods near Ann Arbor Pioneer High School

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Ann Arbor police confirm a human body was found Thursday in a wooded area south of Pioneer High School's football field.

Lt. Ed Dreslinski said investigators believe the body has been in the wooded area, which is known as Pioneer Woods, for possibly as long as a month. They believe the person was homeless or camping in the woods. There are no obvious signs of foul play, said Dreslinski.

Police are working to identify the body, but they say it's not a student from the high school. They're still not sure if it's a man or a woman.

The body was found when a volunteer employed by the city of Ann Arbor was preparing to do a prescribed burn in the woods.

The finding did not affect the school day for students at Pioneer.
