Body parts found in Sterling Heights sewer system

Discovery similar to those in 2012 in Sterling Heights, Warren

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – Police in Sterling Heights are investigating a gruesome discovery that was made Wednesday afternoon by workers from Inland Water Pollution Control.

Workers found human remains on a grate in the sewer line located along 15 Mile Road east of Maple Lane, inside the Edison Corridor. The remains, which are of a Caucasian, were discovered while the workers were making repairs to the sewer system.

They were recovered and turned over to the Macomb County Medical Examiners office for examination.  DNA samples will be submitted to the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification for further testing.

This incident is similar to the previous incident in Sterling Heights on August 15th, 2012, and a previous incident in the city of Warren. The body parts discovered in all three incidents are similar in nature; with no vital organs or appendages discovered.  A strong possibility exists that these items are medical waste that was improperly disposed of  via the sewer system at an unknown location.
