A man has turned himself in for hitting and killing an 8-year-old boy who was riding his bike in Detroit.
Darrin Wilhite died Tuesday evening when he was hit by a car while riding his bike on the city's west side.
In an interview with Local 4, Darrin's mother, Shena Wilhite, said she and her son had just returned home when he asked if he could go outside to ride his bike. Moments later, Whilite said, his friends showed up at her home screaming that the boy had been hit.
"I ran down there and I just seen my baby lying there," she said.
The boy was hit on West Chicago Street and Abington.
The driver who hit him kept going for blocks with Wilhite and his bike pinned underneath. The boy and the bike were eventually dislodged from the vehicle, but the driver took off.

"I just don’t know. I don’t believe it," the grieving mother said. "You took my baby’s life and was it really even worth it?"
Darrin's parents described the second-grader as happy and bright.
"He didn't do nothing to nobody," said Calais Wilhite, the boy's father. "He's an innocent kid."
