Charges dropped against Canton Township mother accused of hiding dead baby

20-year-old mother will not face trial after accusations she wrapped stillborn baby in towels, garbage before placing it outside

CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Criminal charges have been dismissed against a 20-year-old Canton Township woman who was accused of wrapping her stillborn baby in towels and garbage and placing it outside her home.

Emily Dunklee will not face trial after the accusations, Judge James Plakas ruled on Friday. She had been charged with disinterment or mutilation of a dead body.

Plakas said the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office did not have enough evidence to support the charges against Dunklee.

If she had gone to trial and had been convicted she could have faced 10 years in prison.
