Charges issued in Macomb Township dirt bike incident involving 5-year-old

MACOMB TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Charges have been issued for a man who is accused of driving a dirt bike over hills that resulted in a 5-year-old being thrown off it.

Macomb County Sheriff's Office Lt. John Michalke said the 27-year-old Macomb Township man is expected to turn himself on charges of child abuse, operating a vehicle with a suspended or revoked license, improperly transporting a passenger and improperly operating a vehicle on a highway. All of the charges are misdemeanors. The man's name will be released after his arraignment.

Witnesses said the man, who is the boy's mother's boyfriend, was "jumping" hills with the boy Aug. 21 on the west side of Garfield Road near Glenmoor when the boy fell off. The boy had a helmet on, but it came off when he fell.
