Charges upgraded in deadly beating of 89-year-old man in Sterling Heights

Edwardian Davidson now faces murder charge

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. – Edwardian Davidson was back in court Monday afternoon facing a murder charge after the elderly man he's accused of attacking died from his injuries.

The victim's loved ones began to cry and embrace as the 46-year-old defendant entered the courtroom.

Investigators say on Nov. 5 Davidson approached the 89-year-old man and his 85-year-old wife in the driveway of their Sterling Heights home. When he tried to take the woman's purse, investigators say the 89-year-old man stepped in. Davidson then hit the man repeatedly in the head before taking off.

The victim was taken to the hospital. About a week later he died from his injuries.

Davidson was arrested a day after the attack. It's not his first run-in with the law. Investigators say he has a lengthy criminal record of robberies.

At his probable cause hearing, Davidson remained silent. His lawyer entered a plea on his behalf. He is scheduled to be back in court Nov. 30 for a preliminary examination.
