The suspects told the officer they had borrowed the truck from another man who was in one of the motel rooms.

Police said it turned out the pickup had been reported stolen from Cedar City, Utah, on Jan. 1 and contained a duffle bag of jewelry, tools and IDs from Oaklahoma and Cadillac, Mich.

The man in the motel room has been identified by police as 22-year-old Joseph Norman Chambers of Richmond, Mich. He's a parole absconder with an extensive criminal history with convictions for home invasions and auto theft.

Police said he first tried to tell them his cousin had given him the pickup.

Inside the motel room, police said they found coins, stamps, jewelry, silverware sets, recording equipment and credit cards that didn't belong to the suspects.

Chesterfield police said they are working with agencies in Oaklahoma, Utah and Cadillac to try to match all of the stolen items. Police said most of the property appears to have been taken from burglaries in the Cadillac area.

Chambers is charged with receiving and concealing a stolen vehicle, receiving and concealing stolen property and possession of stolen credit card.

The other two men with him have been identified as David Tomayco, 19, and Jake Cooper, 18.

Both are from Richmond, Mich., and are charged with receiving and concealing a stolen vehicle, receiving and concealing stolen property and possession of a stolen credit card.
