Chickens, goats, cat killed at Detroit school's farm

Attack on animals happens on Catherine Ferguson Academy's property

DETROIT – A tranquil urban farm is now a crime scene.

Someone fatally stabbed eight chickens, five goats and a cat.

The attack happened overnight at the Catherine Ferguson Academy in Detroit. The charter school serves 100 pregnant teens and young mothers. The students cared for the animals and grew vegetables.

"It's the most heinous, despicable, malicious act I've ever personally witnessed. It's like being in a bad movie," said Principal Asenath Andrews.

Andrews said she believes someone broke through the school's eight-foot high fence.

One hen was left unharmed. Another is being treated for an injury, and a wounded cat ran away.

Detroit police and the Michigan Humane Society are investigating.
