DETROIT - The female genital mutilation case which made national headlines in March is still winding through the court system.

One concern is for the children of the doctors involved. The state said they’re looking to remove the parental rights of those doctors.

Authorities allege that Dr. Jumana Nagarwala performed female genital mutilation on two girls from Minneapolis at the Burhani Medical Clinic in Livonia after hours.

She is now being held in the Huron County Jail awaiting trial.

Authorities are now trying to figure out what will happen to the children before the pre-trial and trial hearings.

Attorneys on both sides agree that the children will be allowed to remain with the adults watching them as long as the parents agree to medical checks. The parents also agreed to refrain from discussing the case with their children or any other adults.

The pre-trial is set for the middle of June.
