DETROIT – We will have a 1 to 2-hour period of light snow Thursday evening followed by some scattered light snow showers with lows around 18.
After a few flurries or very light early morning snow showers, it should be a fairly quiet Valentine's Day to take your sweetie out. Skies should be mostly cloudy overall (perhaps some breaks developing during the afternoon), with highs in the upper 20s. Southwest wind at 10 to 15 mph.
The weekend looks mostly dry, except for a possible batch of light snow on Saturday night. Otherwise, Saturday and Sunday should balance out as partly cloudy and chilly, with highs in the upper teens on Saturday and mid 20s on Sunday.
Nothing new to report about Monday's challenging forecast. We could see a period of accumulating snow, followed by a changeover to sleet and freezing rain, and then to just plain rain. But the timing and duration of each phase of precipitation is still very much up in the air.
I'll carefully watch this system as it develops, and keep you updated. Highs should eventually reach about 34 degrees.
Tuesday and Wednesday look mostly sunny and pleasant (considering that we've lowered our standards for "pleasant" this particular winter), with highs both days in the mid 30s.
Then get ready for Thursday: Rain is going to develop, but highs should soar into the mid 40s! But don't get used to it, because my long range maps are showing a return to below average temperatures after this.
