The auto company is recalling more than 142,000 pickup trucks and SUVs worldwide.
Chrysler says its noticed software glitches that affect the instrument panels and braking systems. The recall affects about 132,000 Jeep Grand Cherokees and 10,800 Ram pickup trucks, also from the 2014 model year.
The company says no accidents have been reported because of the software glitch. However, the lights on the Grand Cherokee can randomly illuminate and its instrument cluster may black out. Since the same electronic module controls anti-lock braking and electronic stability control, those systems may also be affected.
On the pickup trucks, Chrysler quality-control personnel noticed that the instrument panel turns on and off occasionally.
The company will notify owners next month and dealers will reprogram the vehicles software for free.
