Detroit City Council President Pro-Tem George Cushingberry doesn't want to answer the tough questions about his cash crisis and, more specifically, the money he owes the city of Detroit.
The Local 4 Defenders have learned the Secretary of State put a hold on Cushingberry's driver's license. The license also was briefly suspended in 2012 for an unrelated issue.
There is a hold on the license now because Cushingberry has failed to pay parking tickets. At one point, he owed more than $2,000. As of Tuesday morning, the Defenders are told the balance is about $375.
He declined to comment about the parking tickets, but said "Yes" when asked if the fines were fully paid.
The other controversy which continues to follow Cushingberry involves that recent traffic stop. A Detroit police supervisor now is under investigation after letting Cushingberry go even though officers allegedly found an open bottle of alcohol and marijuana inside his vehicle.
