DETROIT, Mich. -

The new president of the Detroit City Council is calling for an investigation into spending.

Saunteel Jenkins wants an audit of the council's spending during the leadership of former council president Charles Pugh.

In addition to spending records, the inspector general will look into the claims that items are missing in the Media Services Department.

Jenkins said the auditor will not be looking for criminal activity.

Pugh is still a member of council, but was stripped of his pay and position after he failed to respond to a request by Emergency Manager Kevyn Orr to return to work. Pugh's request for a medical leave of absence was rejected by Orr.

Pugh's absence from work also came at the same time that allegations surfaced about him having an inappropriate relationship with a teenaged boy.
