A 26-year-old Clarkston man was killed Sunday night when his car ran off the road and struck a tree.
In a statement about the crash, the Oakland County Sheriff's Office said Ryan Lee Johnson was driving a Pontiac Grand Prix westbound on Holcomb Road just before midnight when he lost control, violently jerked on and off the roadway and went airborne before hitting the tree.
Deputies said the crash was so violent the car's engine was ripped out and found lying on the ground.
Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was wearing a seatbelt but deputies said they are not sure whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
