CLAWSON, Mich. - About 11:30 a.m. Friday -- right off the busy intersection of Rochester and 14 Mile roads -- a man finishing up a delivery at the Citgo gas station was held at gunpoint.
A bold crime, says Clawson Police Chief Harry Anderson.
"This is the first time something like this has happened that I can recall," said Anderson.
It happened in the back parking lot of the store where there's less traffic. The robber walked up behind the 29-year-old delivery man and put a gun to his back. He demanded the keys to the victim's white Chevy 24-feet box truck.
"He told him to turn around and start running and if he turned around he would kill him. The victim did what he was told and ran," said the chief.
The robber drove off with the truck stocked with groceries and cigarettes. So what was he after? The goods or the truck? Chief Anderson expects to find the truck abandoned somewhere around town.
"A lot of time when we see cigarette thefts it's from smash and grabs at party stores. It's always a black market for cigarettes," said Anderson.
The suspect is described as a black man in his 30s about 5 feet 10 inches tall with a medium build. He was wearing a dark colored hooded sweat shirt and had on a dark colored hat.
Anyone with information is asked to call Clawson police at 248-453-5000.
