Cold, hurt dog recovering, needs home

Kimber recovering at Michigan Humane Society

DETROIT – The Michigan Humane Society (MHS) is hoping that a miniature poodle mix, Kimber, who was found roaming in the cold in Detroit, will soon find a warm and loving home.

Kimber was found on Dec. 11 by a concerned citizen near Outer Drive and 8 Mile Road, her long-neglected curly coat covered in mats.

She was taken to the MHS Detroit Center for Animal Care where she received much-needed medical attention.

MHS veterinarians discovered that Kimber had a minor open wound on her leg that would not heal properly, due to the matted fur pulling at her skin. She was treated with antibiotics and MHS began the process of carefully removing her matted and filthy coat.

"Kimber was in pretty rough shape when she first came in," MHS Detroit Shelter Manager Jennifer Rowell said. "But her tail started wagging and her sweet personality came out almost immediately after she was freed from the painful mats and cleaned up."

Kimber is currently available for adoption at the MHS Detroit Center for Animal Care, located at 7401 Chrysler Drive. For adoption hours or to make a donation to help MHS care for Kimber and other animals in need this holiday season, visit www.michiganhumane.org
