Community comes together to raise funds for family 7-year-old hit by car

Jolee Worley was hit while attempting to cross a Woodhaven street

WOODHAVEN, Mich. – The downriver community has come together to help the family of a 7-year-old girl who was hit by a car in Woodhaven a few weeks ago.

Jolee Worley was hit while trying to cross the street, and Olivia Burgess heard about what happened and wanted to help.

"No little girl or her family should have to go through that," she said.

Burgess and her father, Michael Kelly, decided to start a food train because when they had loved ones die in their family recently, Mimi's Mission created a food train for them.

They created an event page on Facebook and reached out to people in the Facebook group, "Downriver and Friends."

The meals have been delivered each day to Jolee's grandparent's house and will be delivered for the next couple of weeks.

Jolee's grandparents, Frank and Melody, said Jolee's condition is improving and she began talking on Monday.

The community is holding a fundraiser for Jolee on November 13 at Woodhaven Lanes.
