ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Thousands of dollars worth of Apple laptops and desktop computers were stolen when two Ann Arbor high schools were broken into overnight. Thieves broke into Huron High School and Ann Arbor Technological High School within a couple of hours of each other.
The crooks not only stole dozens of computers, they also left behind some damage. During both break-ins, the thieves left a trail of broken glass behind after smashing the glass on doors to get into the buildings.
Some parents want to know why someone would target schools.
"It's very surprising to me that someone would break into the high schools here in Ann Arbor," one mom said. "Because those schools are monitored."
The thieves weren't just out for profit. District officials are trying to understand why they ruined many other computers in the buildings. In fact, more than 50 computers were either stolen or damaged between the two schools.
Most of the stolen computers came from Huron High.
Officials say this isn't the first time Ann Arbor Tech has been hit by computer thieves, but nothing has happened like what took place overnight.
Police are looking into if the two break-ins are connected. Parents hope they track down those responsible before they strike again.
