The 1.1 mile walk raises awareness and funds vital research, education, support and advocacy programs in the fight against congenital heart disease.

CHD is the leading cause of birth defect-associated infant illness and death, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

Annette Reichert, of Linden, walked in the event supporting her son after he had three open-heart surgeries.

"It lets us know that it's possible to get through it and be strong and we can get through anything so to be with other people who have had the same experience," Reichaert said.

The event raised more than $100,000.
