DETROIT – A private construction company has started the final construction on the Gateway Project.
Dan's Excavating, of Shelby Township, started the work today after a nearly three-year delay.

The Michigan Department of Transportation hired the company to do the work after the Detroit International Bridge Company lost control of the contract for failing to meet court orders.
The project will allow traffic from the Ambassador Bridge to merge straight into nearby freeways once it is completed.
A judge made the ruling to turn over control of the project to MDOT in early March.
The Gateway Project is now expected to be completed in October.
