Cooling centers opened in Detroit during extreme heat

DETROIT – Cooling centers are opening in Detroit to combat the weekend's extreme heat.

According to the National Weather Service, an extreme heat advisory will be in effect for metro Detroit from noon until midnight Saturday. High temperatures will reach the low to mid 90's and the heat indices will climb into the 100 to 105 degree range. The combination of heat and humidity will create oppressive conditions which may cause heat related illnesses to develop with prolonged exposure; particularly with the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions.
