Crews begin cleanup of snow, ice-covered streets

DETROIT – Crews across Metro Detroit are working to get a jump start on the clean up from the snowfall. The Oak County Road Commission crews were already hard at work Sunday night. Trucks started loading up around 8 p.m. and the work will continue through the morning rush.

The winter mess is coming as the city gets ready to welcome thousands of journalists from around the world to the auto show at the COBO Center.

Sunday night crews could be seen laying salt on downtown sidewalks and working to keep things clear from those venturing out.

In one Westside Detroit neighborhood, pipes began bursting in a home. Rushing water quickly froze. Crews were out breaking up the ice, working to clean up the big mess left behind.
