Crews rescue driver after Jeep is pinned under trailer

Area of Huron River Drive, Rawsonville Road expected to be closed for hours

VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Crews had to rescue the driver of a Jeep Monday morning when the SUV got pinned underneath a semi-truck trailer in Van Buren Township.

Van Buren Fire Chief Dan Besson said the Jeep and semi-truck collided at the intersection of Huron River Drive and Rawsonville Road. The Jeep was jammed under the trailer and dragged for about 50 yards before it stopped.

It took crews more than an hour to cut the Jeep's driver out. Crews used a tow truck to lift the trailer off the Jeep before they could pry open the mangled mess.

The victim is a woman in her 30s, who was conscious at the scene, and airlifted to the University of Michigan Hospital.

The semi's trailer is carrying 40,000 pounds of cargo.

The intersection is expected to be closed for several hours.
