Cushingberry's controversial, traffic ticket is thrown out

Detroit City Councilman out of trouble...for now

DETROIT – Troubled, Detroit City Councilman George Cushingberry's controversial, traffic citation was dismissed in court on Monday. The citation stemming from the notorious, January traffic stop where marijuana, along with an empty liquor bottle, were discovered in Cushingberry's vehicle. Despite the findings, authorities did not arrest Cushingberry , or test him for sobriety, at that moment. Instead, the Councilman was issued a ticket for failing to signal.

The officer who issued the citation failed to show up for court Monday, leading to the dismissal. However, Detroit Police have stated that he was absent due to a paperwork mix-up. The officer had worked in the DPD's Tactical Response Unit, but was transferred to the city's 2nd Precinct in late November. The court notice was sent to the officer's old post, so he failed to get the message.
