ROCKLAND LAKE, N.Y. - A Spaniel named Zoe is back with her Rockland County family after she was rescued from the bottom of a cliff.

It took about a dozen firefighters to accomplish the rescue Sunday at Rockland Lake State Park.

Authorities tell the Journal News that the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was off her leash when she wandered from the path in the densely wooded area.

Her family called 911 around 6:20 p.m. after their own rescue efforts failed.

Firefighters from the Nyack and Rockland Lake departments rappelled down the cliff to get her. Clarkstown police also were at the scene.

Pets are not permitted in the park from May to Sept. 30, and then must be on a leash.
