DDOT bus plows through brick wall of building on Detroit's west side

Witnesses say multiple people taken away in ambulances

DETROIT – A Detroit Department of Transportation bus crashed into a building Friday afternoon on Detroit’s west side.

The crash happened at the corner of Dexter Avenue and Doris Street. The bus crashed through a brick wall into the garage area of the Sun Valley Foods business.

It appears two other vehicles were involved in the crash. A white SUV was severely damaged in the crash and a black Honda SUV was also damaged. The white SUV came to rest in the grass next to the business and the black SUV came to rest on the sidewalk.

Witnesses said they didn't see the crash, but they heard a massive boom. They said they thought a bomb had gone off.

Witnesses said they saw people being taken off the bus and put onto another bus. They said some people from the bus were taken away by ambulances.

Residents from both SUVs were taken away in ambulances, according to witnesses.

Sun Valley Foods was open at the time of the crash, but it's unclear if there were people inside the garage area.

Multiple emergency medical officials, firefighters and police officers responded to the scene.

No other information was made available.
