Sources say SUV driver took off during traffic stop; Other driver arrested on drunken driving charge

DETROIT – One driver is dead and another arrested after a police chase and crash early Tuesday morning on Detroit's west side.

Michigan State Police said troopers tried to pull over a Chevy Trailblazer for failing to stop at a stop sign, not wearing a seat belt and an invalid temporary license plate, but the driver took off.

Police said the Trailblazer hit a Monte Carlo and then a utility pole on Livernois near Fenkell.

The blazer's driver was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene, police said. They have not been able to identify him.

The driver of the Monte Carlo, a 22-year-old man from Wayne, was not seriously hurt, but police said he was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving..
