Dearborn firefighters kick off 'Fill the Boot' fundraising campaign

DEARBORN, Mich. – Last year, the Dearborn Fire Department raised $7,300 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. This year, they're aiming for $10,000 -- and they need your help.

Firefighters will be at major intersections in Dearborn and Melvindale collecting donations for the "Fill the Boot" campaign. The department is the first in the state to kick off the annual event, which is backed by the International Association of Fire Fighters. The campaign is in its 60th year.

The campaign not only raises funds for the national association, but also for local services that help thousands of families in metro Detroit that are affected by neuromuscular disease.

The firefighters will be out at the following locations starting Tuesday:

  • Schaefer at Haggerty
  • Schaefer at Michigan Avenue
  • Michigan Avenue at Military
  • Oakwood at Allen
  • Outer Drive at Monroe
