Dearborn Heights burglary caught on surveillance video

Video shows thieves hit home Friday morning on Appleton Street

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. – Two thieves were caught on a surveillance camera breaking into a house Friday morning on Appleton Street in Dearborn Heights.

A neighbor's surveillance camera shows the burglary at Jamie Frayers' home.

"I am scared to sleep at night. Every noise bothers me. I am checking my doors and windows all night," said Frayers.

Frayers wasn't home at the time of the invasion.

The surveillance video shows the thieves drive past Frayers' home before pulling in the driveway, knocking on the door, returning to the car and driving away. The men then parked down the street and returned to the house to knock again and look through the windows, before going back to the car.

Once the men were convinced no one was home, they headed to the back of the home and pried open a window. After 20 minutes inside gathering electronics and jewelry, the crooks met up with the getaway car and drove away.

"I think it had to do with what was in my garbage that day," said Frayers. "We didn't rip up a PlayStation box. It was just sitting there. Garbage was late because of the snow. So they drove by a couple times, saw the box and said, 'Hmmm, I wonder what else they got in their house.'"

Police say break-ins used to be a problem in this neighborhood and warn residents to keep an eye out for unusual activity.

"I hope they are caught. Get a job like normal people," said Frayers. "I work for my stuff."
