Dearborn police investigate robbery-homicide at Family Dollar store

Man killed during robbery, co-worker missing from store on Michigan Avenue near Outer Drive

DEARBORN, Mich. – A 20-year-old man has been killed during a robbery at a Dearborn Family Dollar store and his co-worker is missing.

Dearborn police said the victim was shot inside the store off Michigan Avenue sometime Monday night.

He was found Tuesday morning by other workers who were opening the store for the day.

Family identified the victim to Local 4 as Joe Orlando.

Brenna Kathleen Machus, 20, who also works at the store is missing. Machus was working with Orlando Monday night.

Anyone with information on Machus' whereabouts is asked to call Dearborn police at 313-943-2241.

The store, which is near Outer Drive, has been blocked off with crime scene tape.

"We're going to get the bottom of this. We're going to leave no stone unturned. I'm going to throw every resource Dearborn police has behind this crime. We'll bring the person or persons to justice," Dearborn Police Chief Ron Haddad said.

Family members told Local 4 Orlando had been looking for a job for a year and had just started working at the store last week.
