Dearborn Heights police officer back under investigation

Officer Ed Garcia under investigation after allegedly requesting Wayne County Prosecutor's Office review friend's drug case

DEARBORN HEIGHTS, Mich. – Dearborn Heights police officer Ed Garcia is a veteran officer who is very involved in the community.

Garcia has been on the force for a number of years. However, he's on administrative leave right now after being written up. He could face possible legal charges.

The Local 4 Defenders have learned Garcia is accused of reportedly approaching the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office about working to change the outcome of a drug case involving a friend of his.

The investigation of possible wrong-doing is underway by the Dearborn Heights police chief.

If Garcia's name sounds familiar it's because just a few years ago he was fired from the police force after an internal department investigation revealed he acted inappropriately when handling a different case.

Garcia was reinstated after he filed a grievance and an arbitrator ruled in his favor.

Now, the Dearborn Heights police officer is dealing with a new scandal, putting him and his judgment in the spotlight again.

The question: Will Garcia get his job back or will this be the final straw?
