Royal Oak doctor charged with making death threats against Oakland County officials

Dr. Kumar Abhigyan Singh charged with 21 felonies

DETROIT – A Royal Oak doctor was charged Wednesday with 21 felonies after he allegedly made death threats toward Oakland County officials.

Investigators said what began as threats from the doctor on social media escalated into something much more alarming. Officials said he made death threats against several people in the legal profession, including the Oakland County prosecutor.

Dr. Kumar Abhigyan Singh was in court Wednesday in Royal Oak, as a judge ordered him to be held on $1 million bail.

Sources told Local 4 Defender Kevin Dietz the steep bail came after officials found a gun and close to 1,000 rounds of ammunition in Singh's house.

Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper said the primary targets of the alleged threats were assistant prosecutors and her staff. She said the alleged threats were very detailed and very violent.

Singh was charged with making threats against government officials.

Police said the first threats showed up in a Facebook post on the page of a prosecuting attorney's sister. According to police, Singh was upset over a criminal prosecution he believes tarnished his image.

The threats didn't stop there.

Police said death threats were made by telephone and text message against Cooper, a retired Oakland County judge and a courtroom bailiff.

When police executed a search warrant at Singh's house in Royal Oak, they found a gun and other evidence.

He was arrested and charged Wednesday with 21 felonies, including terrorism, using a computer to commit a crime and ethnic intimidation.

Police said Singh was a witness in a criminal case a couple of years ago and he didn't like the way in which prosecutors cross-examined him on the stand. They said that's what triggered the alleged threats.

Cooper said she found out about the alleged threats on Saturday and called officials. By the end of the day, the alleged threats were confirmed.
