Deputies crash head-on while in pursuit of suspect

While pursuing a suspect Saturday night in Washtenaw County, two deputies crashed head-on into each other.

YPSILANTI, Mich. – While pursuing a suspect Saturday night in Washtenaw County, two deputies crashed head-on.

The deputies began the pursuit on foot at approximately 7 p.m. as they a man who was wanted for allegedly stealing a car.

They then began pursuing the suspect in their vehicles. When one deputy turned around, his vehicle crashed into an oncoming cruiser at Ecorse and Ford roads in Ypsilanti, right next to Kayla Smith's house.

"I was scared. I didn't know what was going on," Smith said. "I just seen a police officer coming that way and the other was coming the other way."

Both cruisers have front-end damage, but no deputies were injured.

"I was surprised this happened because normally it's quiet over here but hey stuff happens," one neighbor said.

The man who police were pursuing was later apprehended and arrested.
