As the deputy approached, the suspect got into the passenger side of a vehicle. He was ordered to get out and during a search for weapons a handgun with an obliterated serial number was found in his waistband.

The suspect pushed and punched the deputy before running from the scene. The deputy was not injured during this attack.

A K-9 unit responded to the area but was unable to track down the assailant.

However, property left behind in the vehicle provided information leading to a tentative identification of a 23-year-old Pontiac resident.
