Deputy's mistake leads to dropped drug cases in Oakland County

Oakland County Sheriff's deputy fired for failing to get search warrant after discovering pot in Pontiac

PONTIAC, Mich. – More than one dozen drug cases have been tossed out in Oakland County because of the actions of one deputy.

The member of the Oakland County Sheriff's office discovered a large amount of marijuana in a shipping container at a business in Pontiac. He did not have a search warrant.

Prosecutors said the deputy left the scene, got the needed search warrant and went back to seize the drugs.  

Once it was discovered what the deputy had done, prosecutors tossed out that case, along with 15 other drug cases the deputy was a part of.

He has since been fired.
