A fight over money spilled onto the porch. A man started firing gunshots.
"Then I pushed my little friend to get out of the way, then the bullet hit me," Dovonta said.
That's right: The 11-year-old threw his body over a friend -- a 5-year-old boy -- and took the bullet in his shoulder.
"I ran, then it hit me. He woulda got hit in the head," said Dovonta. "He woulda died."
The bullet pierced his shoulder and exited out his back.
"It went through me and out. They said that was the good thing about it," he said.
He is back home now recuperating. Doctors told him he can't play basketball for two months.
Meanwhile, he is enjoying being hailed the neighborhood hero.
"(I feel) blessed," he said.
Police continue to investigate this case. They have not made any arrests yet.
