Detroit City Council to interview candidates for vacant seat

DETROIT – Detroit City Council will interview five candidates Wednesday to replace Saunteel Jenkins as an at-large member of the city's legislative body.

Jenkins was re-elected to Council in 2013 in one of the two citywide Council seats, but she resigned in October 2014 to accept the position of executive director of the non-profit The Heat and Warmth Fund (THAW).

Under Detroit's Charter, Council will appoint a replacement to serve for the remainder of Jenkins' term.

Each candidate will be publicly interviewed for 45 minutes Wednesday during a meeting in Council chamber. Public comment will follow.

The interview schedule is as follows:

  • 11:00 A.M. –11:45 A.M. – Beverly Kindle Walker
  • 11:45 A.M. – 12:30 P.M. – Debra Walker
  • 2:00 P.M. –2:45 P.M. – Tyrone Carter
  • 2:45 P.M. – 3:30 P.M. – Paula Humphries
  • 3:30 P.M. – 4:15 P.M. – Kenneth Donaldson
