Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh will not seek re-election

Pugh may be looking at a run for another public office

DETROIT – Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh will not seek re-election to city council in 2013.

"My intent was never to run for council more than once," Pugh said, in an interview Monday with Local 4.

But he's not done with politics just yet.

"At the end of these four years on council, I will make my decision about what I want to run for then," he said. "Or if I want to run, I'll put it that way."

Pugh was elected to council in 2009 and became council president after receiving the most votes in the election.

Prior to serving in office he worked in as a journalist at several news stations across the country, including Detroit.

He has created Leadership Forums at Fredrick Douglas Academy and Detroit International Academy.

He also sits on several boards and commissions in the city.
