Detroit City Council unanimously passes 'ban the box' ordinance

Ordinance aimed at expanding job opportunities for ex-felons

DETROIT –  The Detroit City Council on Tuesday unanimously passed the "ban the box" ordinance, which is aimed at expanding job opportunities to ex-felons.

The ordinance eliminates the question, "Have you ever been convicted of a crime?" from job applications associated with city work.

The goal is to allow ex-felons an opportunity to apply for jobs without the fear of being pre-judged.
