A 37-year-old man who has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the deadly fire that resulted in the deaths of his two young sons will be in court Thursday for a preliminary exam.
Kevin Deon Washington was arraigned just over a week ago.
His sons, 4-year-old Damien Washington and 1-year-old Mekhi Williams, died Dec. 6. when a fire broke out in their home on Prairie Street.
The two boys were pulled from an upstairs bedroom and transported to a local hospital, but died from their injuries.
Washington has been charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter (failure to perform a legal duty: failure to properly supervise the children so that defendant could help them escape from the burning house) and two counts of second-degree child abuse (failure to perform a legal duty: failure to properly supervise the children so that defendant could help them escape from the burning house).
