Detroit Department of Transportation buys 80 new buses, releases DDOT app

DETROIT – The Detroit Department of Transportation has purchased 80 new buses and released an app that will help make trip planning easier, all with the goal of making sure that buses run on time this year.

The new downloadable app, DDOT Bus, shows the buses' locations in real time, finds your location and provides a trip planner that can make digital suggestions.

"It is critical that we provide a quality public transportation system so Detroiters can access the growing number of opportunities occurring in our city," Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan said.

The DDOT hopes that the app can save bus riders from spending unnecessary time waiting in the cold.

The First of the DDOT's newly purchased 80 buses will begin rolling out in the next two weeks.  The rest of fleet will be on the roads by Memorial Day.
