Detroit development leaders to consider allowing new high-rise on old Hudson's site

Downtown Development Authority will decide on amendment to allow construction

DETROIT – The Downtown Development Authority will meet Wednesday to consider an amendment that would allow Bedrock Detroit to construct a new high-rise on the site of the former J.L. Hudson's building off Woodward Avenue.

Mayor Mike Duggan, chair of the DDA, will meet with board members at 3 p.m.

Bedrock has already expressed interest in turning the site into a mixed-use development.

The site has been vacant since the Hudson’s flagship store closed its doors in 1983 after more than 70 years there. The building itself was imploded in 1998.
