DETROIT - Just days after rape charges were filed against a Detroit police officer, a high-ranking Detroit EMS officer is facing sexual assault charges.
The city of Detroit is already taking action, as lieutenant Dwayne Dixon was locked up in the Wayne County Jail before being recently released after posting bond while the investigation continues.
Dixon was an employee of the city and a lieutenant with EMS, but now, according to documents obtained by the Local 4 Defenders, he's facing a number of criminal sexual conduct charges of the first degree.
Dixon faced the charges last week and will return to court Wednesday for a pre-exam in Romulus. The Defenders were told that the victim is now an adult, but was just 13 years old when the incident allegedly took place.
Dixon's attorney Daniel Marcus released a statement to the Defenders.
"I believe my client is innocent," Marcus said. "Mr. Dixon is fully cooperating with this investigation."
Dixon resigned from his position with the city of Detroit shortly before facing these charges last week. The city has already contacted the state of Michigan to make sure Dixon's EMT license is suspended as the case moves forward.
