Detroit firefighters get new trucks

DETROIT – Detroit firefighters welcomed new trucks to the fleet Monday.

The first of 10 new fire trucks was delivered to a southwest Detroit station.

Trucks are desperately needed by the Detroit Fire Department, as Local 4 has reported extensively in recent years. The new one delivered Monday will replace an old truck with about 150,000 miles on it.

"It's been about 8 years since we got a new vehicle, and this is great," said Executive Fire Commissioner Edsel Jenkins. "The guys are really receptive and this is custom-built for Detroit. This is just the first step in transforming our Detroit Fire Department."
