Detroit firefighter injured at commercial building fire

Palmer Products building burns at Ferry Avenue, Russell Street

DETROIT – At least one Detroit firefighter has been injured while battling a fire at a commercial building on Ferry Avenue at Russell Street in Detroit.

The firefighter has suffered significant injuries, but is expected to be OK. He fell about 10 feet from the base of the truck ladder as he tried to jump out of the way of a falling brick wall. He was struck by some of the falling bricks.

He has been taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital with neck and back injuries.

The same commercial building -- Palmer Products -- burned last week. The fire started again sometime Tuesday afternoon.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.

No other injuries have been reported.
