Neighbors said the home had been vacant for a couple of days. They believed people were squatting there.

Family says children were inside home

A 5-year-old girl was found inside Thursday morning and told neighbors that she saw a man kill her mother and the others. She apparently had been with the bodies for several hours.

"Now I think she is going to be traumatized for the rest of her life because she saw her mom get killed," said Kenyetta Hunt, the victim's cousin.

A 1-year-old child also remained in the house with the bodies overnight.

Shots ring out in neighborhood

"There was some noise, some shots heard mid-evening yesterday [Wednesday]. And apparently I think some family members were notified and they came to check on them and discovered them," said Detroit police inspector Dwayne Blackmon.
