A Detroit man has been charged with a hit-and-run that killed an 8-year-old boy on Tuesday.

Alfonso Butler, 47, is facing a charge of leaving the scene of an injury accident causing death, which carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison. His arraignment is set for 1 p.m. Friday.

Butler is accused of speeding in his Ford Explorer when he hit Darrin Wilhite, who was riding his bike, on West Chicago near Abington Avenue.

Butler allegedly didn't stop, continuing to drag Wilhite and his bike for blocks.

Butler turned himself into police the next day.

Wilhite was rushed to a hospital, but died.
